US Model 1875 Lee Vertical Action Rifle

.45-70. 32.5" barrel. NSN. Blued finish, full length walnut stock with two solid, spring retained barrel bands. Single shot James Paris Lee designed falling block action actuated by striking the rear of the operating lever that looks like a large hammer spur. M1873 type ladder rear sight with headless screws, combination musket pattern front sight and socket bayonet lug, sling and stacking swivels, jag head cleaning rod. Receiver tang marked US and PAT. MAR. 16. 1875. Crisp script ESA cartouche on counterpane. Only 143 of these unique James Paris Lee designed rifles were produced circa 1875 at Springfield Arsenal for field trials and the model was not accepted or produced in an additional numbers. Condition
Good. Bore good, moderately oxidized with frosting and with good rifling. Metal with some traces of blue, scattered oxidation and discoloration and a mostly dull gray appearance. Markings remain clear. Mechanically functional action. Stock with mildew and discoloration, showing scattered bumps, dings, marks and mars.
